So you wanna clean your Inventory?

Who among us has said the famous words “I have to clean the inventory” followed by a deep breath, and then send it back saying “I’ll do it later, is not so messed up.

A force to postpone things, you always have less desire to do it but when enough is enough and in the end we rolled up ours sleeves to begin your epic cleaning, but don’t know where to start. With this tutorial I want to help and simplify your titanic enterprise to make it faster and less stressful than usual, because let’s face it, 80% of what we have in the inventory for us is a mystery, and we discover only on these occasions.

I will use my inventory as an example that has 36k of items, is not much compared to many of you who are between 100k and 70k but the technique that I propose will help you to fall in number (so it will load faster) and to make things much easier to find according to your needs. I also do an appendix for bloggers who are the category most affected by the disorder of inventory ( sounds like a disease XD ).

screen1 screen2 (click to zoom img)

I’m using Firestorm 4.4.2 in Italian (the folders that I will already be in Italian but the examples will be made in English). The first step is to clump all objects in a single folder that I called! ” !ALL! ” (uppercase letters and exclamation points, make sure the folder will always be first, than the other).

The following step can be divided into 2. The first is for those who have never organized their inventory, and the second is for those who have already done so but he found himself again overwhelmed by things.

1 – For those who have never cleaned their inventory suggest you open all your folders and move all the contents in the folder! “!ALL!“.

2 – For those who already have a base of organization relate better advice to those folders by selecting the articles that interest us than not. Already doing so we eliminate a lot of our inventory and we simplify future work.

The next step is to release the Objects folder. Personally I prefer to open them all to be sure not to throw away something useful, but if you are sure that all those objects you have already elsewhere you can proceed with the cancellation.
Ps: We can often get packages even when we are off-line, so I say it is best to check even if you lose a lot of time.

Now we start from the folders as fixed Clothing and Body Parts. We begin to organize them as in this screen. The division I made it according to my inventory, you can use it as an example for yours.

Once you have created subcategories can select one of them and if you want you can further subdivide into more specific categories, such as color or fabric.

Once subdivided you just need to open the second window of the inventory, and start trying everything you have in the folder !ALL!

I recommend when you try things, don’t be too indulgent, if something you do not like don’t hold because for sure do not use it. Avoid phrases as “It will be used in the future” were justifying an object that you probably forget for the end of days. Certainly sorry to throw things away ( i’m the first us to keep every stupid, but then I find myself with things that I never used).
Don’t lose heart because this work seems to never end, it took you months and years to have all these items and for sure will not go away in a couple of hours. Better to do things slowly, leaving no stone unturned rather than doing things by halves.

Another point to thin your inventory are certainly the Notecard, it often happens that cleaning that folder go away about 1k (this is subjective), so highly recommended.

Another trick that I discovered is using the Search inside Inventory by eliminating unnecessary items within our folders, such as scripts and animations that are found after opening a box. They are quite annoying and weigh in a a relevant way inside the inventory.

Just enter keywords like:

Remove Me
Unpack Script
Hold bag Anim *
Hold Script *
Load Anim *

* Becarefull don’t delet important scripts

For bloggers recommend instead of creating a folder that collects all the new items they receive, so as to be always in step with the outputs, and be able to blogging on time all the news without getting lost in the chaos.

A subdivision as simple as this will be just fine then you can customize as you like.

– Dress

This is my method of organizing inventory, what’s yours? How long does it take to do that? I use it day, because I’m very undecided about what to keep and what to throw away. Let me know if the tutorial was useful at least in part.

So you wanna be a Designer?

Hello again, today I would like to present the result of “So you wanna be …” The last time I looked at the topic of Bloggers, an area I know very well. Today I would like to venture into something more complex that I’ve gotten to know personally, or by reading different articles. A small guide to the designer or to become one. It is not gospel truth, but only the fruit of my experience so if I’m wrong let me know. :3

Certainly the beginning is the most beautiful, there is enthusiasm, hope, trust, uncertainty, and all those emotions when you start something new.I also love things like reading a new book has just been printed, or use a new pencil, but to create a store is something a little different a little more complex than it may appear (if you want to do well).

  1. Why? is the main question you should ask yourself or we can ask.why did you do choose, there’s something that made you do it? some passion, boredom, or simply because you need money and do not want to charge those rl.
  2. Are really sure of your choice? or is it a fluke?
  3. What you can do? well it seems obvious to ask but if you want to open a store means you do something or you wanted to learn to do it.
  4. Have fun at the end sl is a game and the store should be taken as this only leads to stress otherwise. do not tie yourself to commitments that seem too hard because then they lead you to give up soon.
  5. The name, must be something that represents you and gives the idea of what you sell. It must be catchy to attract the attention of the buyer just like in real stores.
  6. Personal conduct, be yourself, do not believe superior to others just because you have your own store and do nice things. You are a player of sl like many others, and if you claim to be treated with respect, as many do.

The place where you choose to put your new store is a basic soooo important. Because it will be the base or the mainstore to which all buyers may reference, and therefore must have a solid foundation.

  1. Location, i believe that any land may be fine, so avoid buying a land of your own, or rent server, because you do not know even if you’re lucky or not with this project, so go careful.
  2. Space, you been started yet? and don’t have many items, not splurge on larger businesses to you, with large spaces. Do’ot need it. You will make your articles just more wasteful (because then all you need to fill space). More walking for a large space to search for a thing is not at all pleasant, people like to have everything at your fingertips.
  3. Rent, here you have to pull out all your experience in terms of sl research. Is very difficult to find common ground with a suitable size and with a fair charge. So the calculator in hand and get a first idea of how many feet you need and how many prims you want to use.
  4. Land, did you choose the offer you require seems convegnente? not splurge on payments compulsive, but rather examined the life of the server (update status) of land, how serious is the agency or person who rents? how long this land is on and if you have had problems previously? I recommend you do to avoid unpleasant surprises, such as land disappeared without notice with all your money return to you a bunch of prim indecipherable.
  5. How to use the space we have? you need an idea of how you want the store, a skybox or a store with a beautiful garden in front, or other types of decorations that will take up Space and Prim.
  6. Prim, will be your headache then you should be able to make us feel everything you ever imagined in a certain limit of prim, so be very careful to be frugal and use decorative objects (albeit expensive) of a few prim, avoiding the lag, making it innavigable staying in your store.
  7. Style, surely you will have your taste and your style on how you want to decorate everything. Be original in a way that also reflects the idea behind the construction of the store. But if you can’t, also fine the stores ready to use, just find the one you prefer and use it as a base for the changes.

Now that we have our modest structure can switch to its internal organization and also external (or managment). Unlike what you think if you start with yourself is a job that may take time and perseverance. Hold on!

  1. FAQ, are very important, because to avoid flooding by IM or NC for any problem but above shall inform in advance the rules of the store.
  2. Let yourself be to know! You just have to make a bit of publicity, I mean the good one. Don’t spam at random but do subscribe to the groups for designers where you can announce your new creations.
  3. Use social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Plurk. Surely increase your popularity.
  4. Bloggers can help you show off your creations, but remember to handle them well and check them periodically. Often they can be lazy, to avoid this I suggest you choose them personally.
  5. Group. There are many ways to manage groups of your store but basically serves to inform their fans of new releases or other important events involving the store. If you choose to make a group for a fee, to be a little more VIP, surely you must justify this expense with discounts, offers or gift.If you pass a long period where you have not released any of these three, immediately alerts members to reassure and make them understand that they have paid for nothing.
  6. Customer Service, be available with your customers, are the ones who spend money in your store and they deserve to be treated with kindness.
  7. Subscriber is very useful and is an extension of your group sl but much freer especially because you do not need to sacrifice one area of your 42 groups (which are never enough I would need at least 100)
  8. Satellites are extensions of your maintstore where you provided on average by 10,50 or 100 prims to display your creations. Are particularly useful because they allow you to get you noticed by more people. Be careful to choose with care the mall are often time events of short duration and lack of professionalism.
  9. Rooms is a new trend to show off your store, a room where each participant presents his own creation or theme created exclusively for this event.
  10. Fairs, an event theme that has often limited to a duration of one month where every Shop creating a set of designs based on that theme, or simply showing their latest releases. Very popular because in such a short period there is a large flow of people and therefore a great opportunity to show to others.

The juice of your entire business.

  1. Creativity, be original and creative so that your belongings will recognize from other very well.
  2. Inspiration, inspired by looking at fashion magazines and trend in the world. Often trends rl, sl same with the, if you want to be updated you should read a lot.
  3. Sharing if you have the opportunity to help someone who starts or asks you for advice, don’t deny it so brutal in the end all of us when we start looking for help. The success doesn’t depend on secret, but how you know to use what you have learned.
  4. Trends often tend to flatten the individuality of the store because if you buy something like all the other stores as well reproduce it and it spreads like wildfire homogenized whole market.
  5. Care, be precise in detail even though no one will notice them, then looking at a whole will have a big performance.
  6. Take your time, to get things done right it takes a long time especially at the beginning because you must take experience. Don’t worry there is nobody chasing you.
  7. Be honest with yourself and with your buyers, if a job has taken you less time and effort is useless it cost 300-200 linden, especially if you use ready-made templates.
  8. Be patient, do not give up and keep trying until you are satisfied with the work. Not always do what we want to succeed first.
  9. Test, try things before you sell them, often you may have missed something then you bring complaints in the future. You can use your friends to see if everything works and objects are of good quality or is there something to be corrected.

The way you manage and expose your creations.

  1. Size, must be acceptable not overly large nor too small, otherwise you risk needlessly taking up too much space or on the contrary you can not understand what it is.
  2. Demo, put it more available to customers (if necessary) so customers can try before you buy. Eliminate a large part of hassle.
  3. For delivery can use the simple buy or even use the appropriate script, the important thing is must to be clear.
  4. Good picture are always appreciated beautiful pictures because they capture the attention and entice you to buy. Care for it much, but do not deform the content because you risk to idealize too much.
  5. Gift to bloggers. Objects that sent to your bloggers try to compacted as much as possible with the attached notecard of information on the product in order to inform them as much as possible.
  6. Information, in the images of the vendors indicated precisely what it is about, avoiding the risks of misunderstandings.

And here I am at the end, I do not know if I wrote everything I probably missed something let me know if this is so. Maybe my vision is too much idealized of designers. XD

Ps: Excuse my bad english. ^^”

So you wanna be a Blogger?

It is not that long ago that I do the blogger and I’m still a noob because I still have much to learn. So I wanted to make a small guide for those starting now and want some tips or for those who already have experience and want to compare their experiences.
Ps: sorry if my English is not perfect.

  1. The blog is yours and nobody else, then you have total freedom on it, don’t get a job because first of all is one thing you have to like it, otherwise it just stresses you out.
  2. Be Organized, starting from the inventory tries to separate the things that come to you so you know where you’ve blogged and what has not. (my inventory is a perennial disaster as far as he organizes :D) It will be much easier then to see if you miss some articles.
  3. Don’t expect free items from the designers just because you’re a blogger. You can find many quality items without spending a linden, and even here it should be your ability to be blogger. Ability to combine everything with style and classirrespective of its source.
  4. If you can discuss what you are wearing is very pleasant to read a brief staff on opignon clothes you are wearing. (I personally do not write much but I try to explain why I did that combination what has inspired me and so on).
  5. Create your own style, you are not a copy of anyone. Often we see very similar to each other blog with maybe the same skin and the same clothes. Avoided even if maybe the style you like, be careful to only use it as inspiration. Nobody likes to see a blog that is a copy of another especially the creators.
  6. Observe around, is very useful to look around to follow the feeds of other blogger perhaps especially the ones you like. Register in groups of bloggers and talk talk talk. It may sound stupid but to deal with others helps to mature very own style in published articles. Never think that you have reached the maximum you can improve more.
  7. Use social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Plurk. Surely increase your popularity even without use of feeds.
  8. Be reached, dedicated a part with details about you and how to contact you even if it is possible to send you review copies.
  9. Don’t stress the designer with NC to send you copies. A notecard is more than enough if you do not answer obviously is not interested. Do not ask if you have received your NC because it clearly says in the chat when you receive it.
  10. Always read the profiles of the creators often find everything you need to know. If it don’t release copies or have a full group is useless to send notecard.
  11. Create your own NC where you tell about your blog, don’t dwell too much and get to the point, that is:  the link of your blog / blogs where you work, your flickr, and if you feed. If you want to receive copies or be part of the group of bloggers be specific.
  12. Always put the credits of the creators who do you blog, even those of the poses, possibly with links back to the main store. And when you make a post link directly to the designer, it’s always nice to seeing blogged , and creators in the future are enticed to send other copies to you.
  13. There is not always the possibility to receive copies, but not necessarily need to receive it. If you have a little money you can buy a easily accessory for that you need to complete the look. Is a great way to help your favorite designers and SL economy.
  14. Respect, remember that designers are people so be friendly and nice when you contact. Even if you’re a famous blogger, and you are contacted by an unknown designers try to show the same respect for anyone.

I hope to have listed many things as possible or at least those that came to mind. Underlying add some utilities such ‘as how best to organize your inventory.

The first impression is very important, as all parts of the blog template is the framework of what we create. A bad frame could ruin a whole work is then treated like the rest.

  1. Maintain a standard picture for every post you make. Make it more smooth and balanced while you browse the blog. Try not to use images that deform the template, so not too big.
  2. Do not use colors that make too much contrast with the text, the long weary eyes and just want to close the blog.
  3. Keep a clean and neat layout which is easy to navigate even at first glance. Avoid using too many widgets are annoying and distract from what is the target, the post.
  4. Use legible fonts, because customized ones tired a lot the eye although they are very pretty sight. Cute = Unreadable.
  5. Don’t use glitter or anything else that may bother the view as a BG too flashy.

The heart of the blog and your work, here you see your style and passion for what you do. is the calling card of a blogger. Must be cured, attractive, original, but especially must show the items.

  1. Take good pictures, is the essential thing. An object is of excellent quality but maybe when the photographers in the wrong way could be horrible. In short, well done with great photos also enhanced the article that you wear.
  2. Use your imagination for the background image, I change often trying to get one that show the quality of the avatar photographed. Again, you must have your own style, add shots or close-ups of accesories or just the whole figure. Played at the end is a a lot fun.
  3. Don’t change too much the picture, you can adjust it to improve it in small details, but don’t make radical changes because at that point the items shown are not the originals and give a different picture of the product, indeed deformed.

How to make high quality photo? It does not take much, a little patience and some settings right. They can do all of those who also have a PC with limited features. Merely adding an anti-aliasing setting that eliminates the rough edges. 🙂

I link some article done by experienced bloggers in this regard.

I want to thank first of all before me who created the wonderful and useful tutorial which I link in this post. – Harlow Heslop – Luna Jubilee – Strawberry Singh – Anya Ohmai

About a Mesh!

I know I’m late to talk about this news, because was released some weeks ago, but I was curious to wait the clothes come out to touch the possibilities of this news. For those who do not know what I’m talking about well you can read here:

First of all, what is it, exactly? The term “mesh” refers to an object that consists of polygonal geometry data. Essentially, it’s what you see in modern video games, special effects and 3D animation. It’s extremely flexible — and when it’s well-made, it can be way more efficient than the existing prims and sculpties you’ll find inworld currently. Mesh objects are first created in external programs, such as Blender or Maya, and then imported onto the Second Life grid. Once there, mesh objects can be manipulated in pretty much the same ways you would manipulate a regular old prim.

Mesh FAQ & Info:

Viewers that  support Mesh:

Where you can see and buy Mesh item Destination

After this quick overview, I turn to examine in detail the potential of the mesh, at least the current ones.
Preface that are personal observations quinidi may also be wrong, if they are, comment or send me an im will correct them. 🙂

I divide into 2 groups, the positive and negative.

  • There are pieces sculpt out of place.
  • Do not waste time ad’aggiustare the dress, fits perfectly!
  • The clothes are fluid as if it were true.
  • The skirts at last bend when you sit down!  Yaaay ❤ i’m waithing this for 2 year!!!!
  • The ability to use an infinite number of vectors to make things a lot more detailed.

  • Not all land yet support it (a matter of time).
  • Unfortunately, using the alpha layer you can wear only once, so you cant wear things like shoes or hair or other acessories that use alpha. (at least that are not incorporated in the future. For now i try on Firestorm and it worck when you have Add but i dont know if it worck on kirsten or SL 3.0).
  • If you lean the body over 90 ° such as poses, or sitting in the much more complex, the mesh deforms at the waist.
  • They have a standard size that you can not change, and then those with a shape larger than normal will be like a sausage.

As I mentioned are my observations I could be wrong, but are derived from direct experience with the mesh. I hope that the most annoying problems are solved 🙂
All in all I am very happy with the new news and I am sure that will become essential, showing great potential of Creators and Artists.
